Funny? I thought "NoFollow" will only stop the spider from crediting your commentators and not supposed to hurt your rank? It is just a simple command to the spider to stop following links left behind by commentators, is that not so? Anyone care to confirm?

directory submissions, social bookmarking, connecting to different people on the web (networking), blog comments.. there are lots of ways for you to be able to gain backlinks..

@Eva White - thanks for that one.. I know pr and backlink updates take time.. and right now I am currently working on my blogs for it to increase.. specially the traffic of my blogs..

Thanks for the advice. I do all that so I guess I'll have to learn to be patient.

Google is becoming increasingly concerned about the quality of links, so is penalising link farms (which is what do-follow blogs look like) and selling links, such as pay per post programs. You're better off joining such programs after you already have a PR

I'm still PR 0 with over 1000 links. I guess I need to spend more time working on content.

Best most natural way possible for a blogger is to write something awesome. A top 10 list to end all top 10 lists in your niche. This will get everyone linking to you because it's of benefit to their readers.

Apart from that a LITTLE directory submission to ~5 great ones, some blog roll exchanges in your niche... That type of thing.

On today's web it's quality over quantity by a long shot. Build a resource that established sites in your niche will link to and you're good to go. Hence in my last post when I mentioned directory submission; 5 good ones is 10X better than 1000 bad ones.

In fact spammy crappy links can HARM your rankings. You don't want links IN or OUT of bad neighborhoods. If you're a classy respected site what are you doing with "ties" to unethical etc...
