Alexa Widgets, and Increasing your Rank

Does anyone know if including the Alexa widget on your site actually helps to improve its ranking?

I've seen the "build your own widget" at this address:

And I've read that throwing it on your site helps to improve its ranking, but I have no facts to back it up. Can anyone confirm or deny if including an Alexa widget on your site will help your ranking?

I don't have any evidence either way. From a technical perspective, it *could* help your site stats by counting visits from people who don't have the toolbar installed.

But that would mean they'd have to handle the case when they get a hit from someone with the toolbar and from the widget at the same time. Not impossible, but probably not worth the hassle.

So, no facts, but I'd guess that the widget is just what it says, a way to display your stats.

I have just tried the Alexa widget on my blog for like 3-4 days. Did not notice any increase in Alexa rank before and after a new post has been posted. I will keep track of the ranking in the next few days and will report here for any changes. Hope you will do the same

I don't think by just putting the Alexa widget will improve your rank in Alexa. However getting linked by other people certainly will make your stats jump in an instant. These are my increase in ranks, and as far as I remember, each time there is an increase in rank, I did something to get myself linked (commenting, backlink, etc.):

I am not that particular with the Alexa rankings.. but I install an alexa toolbar on my status bar..

I have read in several places that having the Alexa tool bar on your computer can help to improve your rank. It wouldn't hurt to have it on there. Then you can see what the Alexa ranking is on other sites.

I have the SeoQuake tool bar on my computer. It gives the PR, Alexa and backlink counts to each of the search engines.

It could lead people to ALEXA and therefor encourage them to download the toolbar which could increase your rank.

I just see it as free promotion for alexa; I had it up on the main page of this site but have since taken it down. MOST who REALLY care about alexa already have the toolbar installed so they know the rating anyways. Just MO. It doesn't hurt though and many still widely use it as a measure.

It is a horrible measure but actually the best we have.

Just as a followup, I've installed the Alexa widget on my site, however, I installed it inside a hidden div tag. I really didnt want to display it on my page.

Anyways, I didnt notice any increase in my alexa ranking.
