Default Top and Bottom of Page 1 on Search Results

This is going to sound crazy but from what I'm seeing many maybe even most of the search engine traffic for this site is coming from terms on the BOTTOM of page 1.

Here's my question; when you search do you look at ALL of page one then decided or just hit #1 if it's relevant? (or #2-3 if #1 doesn't sound so good).

I usually skim the first 4 or 5 results to see if my search was any good; if it wasn't, I search again.

If the top results are crap, and I can see it, I'll skim down. With the proliferation of black hat adsense sites, I seem to be doing that a lot. That's probably whats going on
