How To Rank High In Google Search?

I'm wondering how I can market myself to get a high ranking in the google search. Do those subscription links work? Or does that just put your blog up at the top of the search when the visitor does a search and is subscribed to your link?

Backlinks are pretty much making comments on other blogs and leaving your url on there?

thats commonly called comment spam if your only intention is to boost your PR / rankings. Also, many blogs have nofollow tags on comments so they dont count anyway.

Backlink is a general term used for a link from an external site to yours. Comments is one form but so is people writing about you in their blogs, directory submission, forum signature links, social media etc...

I personally think getting a good ranking takes time and patience. One of my sites has been live several years and is now starting to rank higher. It's because I've done some of things others have suggested, read books on SEO, looked at what others were doing on their high ranking sites and joining forums such as this. I've also done a few ads using Google AdWords to promote my sites.

yes it takes a lot of time and patience. What you could do in the meantime is link development such as submitting your sites to directories, submit articles to article directories, submit your rss feed to rss directories, social bookmarking ,link exchange etc...

On one of my sites that I had a few pictures that had unique keywords, that made my site on the first page of Google for that search term. The site didn't have any backlinks and had only been up for a couple of months. The pictures were also hosted by Google, so I am sure that probably helped.

Write your opinion on hot topics in the blogger world. I look through Google Trends sometimes.

I also use web addresses in my post titles sometimes. I made some good money with www[dot]callyourplay[dot]com as a post on my blog. I was ranked #2 right behind the actual website.

Why does this work? Well a lot of people put web addresses into the search bar instead of address bar to go to websites. Weird huh?
