Default Webring

I ran across this site, and it has actually generated a bit of traffic for my art blog - I am new to it, and not quite sure of all the in's and out's, but it seems to be sending some traffic. If anyone wants to check it out -

Webrings have always been a pretty good source of targeted traffic.

Best of luck

I operated an online store a couple of years ago, and received some traffic off webrings.

What I did was go join as many webrings as I could that were related to my store. That worked fairly well for my store back then, but how well it would work for a blog, I'm not sure.

I'm not a big fan of webrings. The problem is that you don't know which site you'll be taken to next until you click the link. This kind of "mystery linking" is a usability concern - it should be obvious where a link will take you before you click it.

I guess the same thing could be said about a lot of ads, but I think that's a different subject entirely. I'd much prefer to see a list of links to other blogs that the blogger likes. Good quality links are better than ones that take you on a magical mystery tour.

If a webring is closely targeting the niche that you are offering then I think it would be of good use.

That means that shoppers to your site are already looking for what you have for sale.

Targeted traffic is always better, but then again in the beginning any traffic is good because a few percent of them may end up to be your customers.

In a seminar I attended not long ago the speaker said to only market to people that already had their wallet in their hands.

I think I'll always remember that one.

i kinda agree to shopping4coupon's opinion. you should sign up for a webring if you think it is related to your blog niche.

I agree with Shopping aka Bruce as well. Mainly on the point that in the beginning any traffic is good. Traffic stats are what let you know people ARE visiting and make it worthwhile. Nothing worse then working a whole MONTH and getting almost NO visitors. Depressing and causes blogging loneliness

Its a good fit for my art blog - as far as business blog - the jury is still out. A little bit of traffic there, but thats about it.

Webrings are just like a "StumbleUpon" of web 1.0: you don't know where you'll end.
