I submitted to two of them, there was one on the list that wanted money to sign up. My releases were accepted within an hour or so.

PRWeb does cost a little money but it can be well worth the small cost. It takes up to 48 hours for the press release to go live.

Default Free Press Releases

I have noticed that this year a few of the free press release sites that I had listed previously now have a fee associated with posting releases. I'll remove these as I find them.

I should mention that most of the free press release sites do also offer an enhanced option where they will let you put extra backlinks to your sites for a fee.

In evaluating the worth of these you should consider a few things:
  • What's the PR of the press release site?
  • Will they let you place a keyword rich anchor link? or just a link? That matters a lot.
  • Are the back links in the body or just the footer? A link in body of the press release is more powerful.
  • A paid press release is more likely to be picked up by other news sites and RSS feeds.
  • How quick do you want to get to the top? Patience is a virtue some times, but not when you need to get a product in your customers eyes quickly.
Another thing I should add is that when submitting the same press release to many free press release sites, try and edit the title and the keywords in the body of the press release slightly so that Google does not pick it up as duplicate content.

Also, since I do own a web design and business marketing company, if you needs a free press release submitted, I would be happy to help you with that.

Thanks

Hello,

I tried posting to the free PR sites and the listing does not show up on a google search. How can I get the pages to rank?

Your press releases itself are not necessarily going to rank on page 1 of Google although you should also check the news and blog tab under Google search.

The website the press release is linked to is what your trying to climb and often it takes time. At least 2 weeks for Google to index all the sites that happened to pick up the RSS feeds from the news sites.

A lot also depends on the competition of the keywords you are using. Send me a link and I'll analyze it for you.

PS. You also should include your blog in your signature and profile here, you'll get some hits just because of that.

Don't discount the power of Bloggeries.com. Check how the keywords "The Power Of Free Press Releases" is doing:

A lot of the PR sites don't actually make your url html so it's not read as a link. I've done a few press releases and they do help out though especially if other sites republish them.

Default Free Press Releases

Yes some free press release sites only allow a backlink in your signature but that still is valuable. Anywhere you can get a link from a high PR page with relative content is great, especially when it is free.

Some news sites allow full html in the press releases so make sure you take advantage of those to help drive up the credibility of your site for the keywords you pick.

Remember the goal is not to have people click the link in the free press releases but to have Google index the news site with your link in it, thereby raising your site to the top of Google for your keywords.
