Question about pictures?

My most popular blog posts are biographical profiles, which include a lot of pictures related to the person featured. As soon as I posted them, my hits increased EXPONENTIALLY. However, it seems that people are coming ONLY for the pictures and then leaving immediately. I'm not trying to make any money with my blog, so it's really important to me to create a sense of community instead. While it's pretty cool that I am getting so many hits, is there anything I can do to have people stick around? Should I post less pictures so that my reader interactions are a little more meaningful, or is that counterproductive?

Very interesting question indeed. It's good that you add pictures on your biographical entries; that increases your readership. However, there's a caveat to that: have you tried using social media to expand your readership, like posting your latest update on Facebook, Twitter, etc.? That could actually help boost your readership more, yet you might even end up having regular readers who will come to your website. Trust me, I will check out your blog and work out on things you can do to make it better.

I use Twitter, Google+, and Youtube-- I avoid Facebook because I'd like my blog to remain anonymous and not connected with the rest of my life. (It's a pretty controversial sort of topic.)

You can join blog communities and directories. Blokube - Social Media Network and Blogging community. This is just one blog community but there are a whole lot of them.
