I set one up last week. So far it's been well received. Do you have a newsletter? What do you include in it?

Hey Ben, I do. I use aweber's blog broadcasting to notify my readers of any new updates. I have the automation turned off so whenever I do off the wall programming related posts my software customers don't get turned off. I also set up a similar service for a client and his users love it. We include a jquery drop down at the top of the page for opt ins and also a checkbox for commenters asking if they would like to subscribe to the newsletter. I haven't done this on my own yet... but I should. But his site is political and mine is marketing/development industry related so he gets a lot more commenters.

Hi adbox I really like Aweber - the editor's not the best (but they appear to have a new version in the works). The tool itself is really good, and the stats are very useful.I like the idea of doing custom opt-in forms - the default code is very bloated. I tidied up the code a bit, but I should read up on it a bit more to find out what I can safely remove.

I have a newsletter for my blog VidsToWatch. At the moment it only displays the latest videos posted on the blog, but i'm going to change it a bit in the future and see what else i can add

Nah, I don't for my current sites. I really don't think I'd have the right audience for that, especially considering many of my subscribers already get email notifications when I post. If at some point there's something I find relevant to announce to everybody, then I would send out a mass email, but I don't think I have enough reason to send out a regular newsletter.

I do not have a news letter for my blog. I always figured that my blog with the newsletter in and above itself. What sort of content are you putting in your newsletter that you are not posting on the blog?

I used to have a newsletter for my old parenting blog, but haven't set one up for my new personal blog. I wouldn't be sure what sort of content readers would be after?

| Quote:
1. A weekly summary of recent posts on the blog, for those who don't check in daily. I don't summarise every post, just a selection (otherwise it would get to be a bit much). 2. An "extra" email that looks at one post on the blog in greater detail, with quotes from a couple of other bloggers. The content is derived from the blog, but the newsletter goes further and presents the blog posts in a different format with additional content.

I have created a newsletter for my blog. My audience is young women so it is often easier to get them to read it all at once instead of every day. I also have the need to announce new workshops and other events. I create newsletters for my website clients and that work has \helped me refine content types and focus. |

I haven't experimented with newsletters myself but I suppose it's just another option to get your content across to an audience. As long as you can get enough people signed up then it's worth doing.
