I have been blogging on and off for a number of years and every time after the period of being 'off' I find that the game has really changed. Well I have gotten back into blogging and have been trying to come up with ways to get more comments on my blog. I wanted to share my first strategy with everyone: From my perspective its really tough getting people to comment on a new blog. People head to your blog and see that there are no comments, so the first thought is usually "no comments means not a popular blog, not a popular blog means terrible content, terrible content means I won't read it." My thoughts were that you need to have a bit of credibility in order for people to comment on your blog, and often credibility comes in the form of comments. It's a whole chicken/egg thing. I was trying to think of how to get more comments to rejuvenate my blog and it made me think of my elementary school days where the school needed money for a class trip and you had to sell those horrible chocolate bars, or Christmas ornaments or whatever. You didn't have a very good chance of selling that garbage door to door so you did the next best thing: sell it to your family and friends. This worked because you had credibility with your family and they actually cared that you got to go on that ski trip or band camp, or whatever it was. Even today you still have credibility with friends and family, so my strategy is to mostly promote content to friends and family by publishing the post to Facebook. Your family should read the posts and provide commentary. This will give the blog the illusion of having built up credibility. The other added bonus is that if your blog is a piece of garbage your friends and family will let you know and you can either adjust your blog, or just walk away.

True, our friends can be lazy. The other part that I failed to mention is that when one publishes the post to Facebook that they tag a few friends that may be interested in the content. That way it personalizes things a bit more than just a random post to Facebook and should hopefully cut down on the lazy factor
