I'm not sure how to promote a blog successfully. It appears that if you attempt to link to your site, more often than not you'll get reported for spamming. It seems the only way to market is to advertise, but that can get costly, and I didn't see much of a return from AdWords last time I used it.

They key is content. Marketing is secondary; pretty much every moment that you spend on your blog should be about creating great, _fabulous_ content. There is absolutely no level of marketing that will result in a blog making money until that blog is great, fabulous, better than almost every other blog in its niche.

That's why most blogs don't make money. Blogging is not about making money.

as chickenfreak said the key is the content. another thing is backlinking - use forums, visit other blogs, leave comments. If anyone comment your blog and leave website address, ALWAYS comment back (unless they are spammers). your audience will slowly increase (i think)
