In my opion Facebook page's will be the future, currently I am getting a fair amount of traffic from Google and a small about from facebook but I have started to collect "likes" and already have 120ish and its increasing. In the future I hopefully have a fair amount of "Likes" and every joke I submit to my facebook page linking to my blog will get "liked" or "shared" or "commenting on" which will be notified to there friends kinda like viral marketing. In my opinion because my blog has high competition I will struggle to ever be ranked in google for "jokes" or "funny jokes" (I wish). Instead I am currently ranked in the top 3 of google for "Paddy and mick jokes" and "retard jokes" + more. that said I think my facebook page will be my main income of traffic in the future due to high demand of my main keywords (Google) What do you think? What about yourself Google SEO or Facebook?

Right now I don't use either, although since I'm trying to post semi-anonymously, I think I'll aim for the SEO over the facebook for the time being.

I have yet to see any traffic come from Facebook itself, I have over 300 likes in a 3 month period and nada.

I don't think there's any harm in paying attention to both. You may never rank #1 for "jokes," but you're certainly going to rank high for key phrases sometimes (as you've seen) and that can really rake in the traffic. People love jokes, and heck, even I get traffic from people searching for certain kinds of jokes because of a post I did a couple years ago, and I'm not even joke-oriented. The thing is, you're going to get a trickle of traffic for SEOed pages without much effort later on, whereas Facebook is something you need to be constantly involved with (or constantly pushing out content for), etc. Spend the time to make sure you're optimized when you're posting and then spend your time beyond that just focusing on social networking maybe?

Well I will suggest that you focus more on Google SEO likely you will get more traffic compared to Facebook Page as I find it as a passive channel unless you create some contest/promotion

The sites like facebook give great marketing support for piling up revenues. Having a page at Facebook isn’t enough as more efforts are needed to promote your pages. The more target oriented you are at your Facebook page the more you will get higher numbers of visitors who are actually your prospective customers....

While I think facebook is important I reckon most people use it only to keep in touch with friends and stalk ex's. Google is still the most widely used search engine and will be for the for the the time been. I would focus on SEO mainly, then twitter and facebook. |
