Technorati, does it really help?

I've been on technorati for about a month now. My question in, how much does technorati weigh in terms of adding traffic, raising PR, and promoting your blog in increasing search relevance in google?

Also, other than technorati, what other sites do you suggest that really work in increasing PR (I know there's topics like this in the blog already but this thread is focused more on technorati.)

Technorati IMO is seen as one of the leaders in 'blog directories'. It has it's own ranking system of your blogs importance/reach/relevance and it is compared to the other registered blogs in Technorati. Now that said, i think it's an important space to be in for sure, but I don't find it as valuable a tool as say blog catalog for building a network of fellow bloggers, or blog forums just like this one where you can actively discuss issues and learn from your blogging peers. There is a lot of small details, the devil really is in the details when it comes to online marketing, and they are all important. Having your blog in Technorati is just one of those details.

I currently don't have a blogcatalog, but I may create an account soon if you really recommend it.

Technorati is such a great site so far for me, the articles written there are very interesting especially the ones in the "blogging" section.

My gf has made numerous friends, and fellow bloggers, using blog catalog. These friends of hers have also been burning up twitter, facebook, and their own blogs to help cross promote themselves and her and our traffic numbers have proven its working. Its just a great place to meet like minded bloggers that you can build a professional network with that can be beneficial to you both.

I also like making friends of bloggers because bloggers aren't the average Joe, when we find something we like/dislike we are very vocal about it. If you want to gain maximum exposure get a handful of people who will shout about how great, or stupid, you are versus a handful of people who will read your stuff and tell no one.

Does Technorati increase traffic to your sites? I've registered a blog with Technorati before, but it didn't seem to do much.

It can/will if you happen to be one of the top blogs by there ranking system since they will prominently display you in your categories, but sadly most do not get that treatment.
