We recently ran a Home Depot giveaway (yes, sponsored by the organge dudes! A giveaway of course is no good unless you can attract new visitors to your site. So I used some which worked marvelously and others that did not. Once the giveaway was over, I wrote about the best sites which gave us the most traffic during our giveaway; it was If interested you can see here the sites which gave us our new traffic in case it helps you to bring new traffic to your site should you run your own product contest / giveaway. I hope it helps, Dan

You actually had luck with all those sweepstakes sites? I've seen lists like this before but they usually include only "blog contest" type sites, so I never would've even thought about all those sweepstakes type ones.

However, what is a contest but someone giveing away something to someone. ![]() There was one site which required not one but two back links; that was a bit much IMO to ask so I didn't use it (and therefore its not included in the list from Feb 2011).

In our case we had over 1,800 entries over 3 weeks and the majority came from those sites I mentioned earlier. We had one giveaway / contest wherein we had over 9,000 entries! We actually wrote about it to share our experience with other bloggers who might be interested in our OnLine Contest Details article. Again, it cost us no money to run these or provide the prizes. As well, we were able to retrieve so much information from that 9,000+ entry online contest that it helped us to start our free home energy saving and water saving guide that now exceeds 530 money saving tips for any household. I hope that helps!

These contest / giveaway listing sites come and go, so folks can start with the list of what worked for me back in January 2011. I'd appreciate hearing of any other sites currently used by folks which, like the ones listed above, are free and only require at most 1 link back during the duration of the contest / giveaway.

It can definitely bring in new readership and traffic. You have to keep in mind that those huge surges are mostly false, so you need to find ways to retain those readers and keep some of them coming back even after the giveaway is over. Most end up only being interested in the prize, but some will want to return later as well, so make sure there are reasons for them to (like awesome content).
