Hello! Although I've been blogging for a couple of years, I just recently started to start focusing on it. Now I'm working on getting traffic. (lourceyphoto.com) I'm curious if any of you have a routine you follow every time you create a new blog post? Are there any online sites or pieces of software you use to let the world know about your latest update? Do you have a promotion routine for each entry or do you just publish the post and that's it? Thanks for any input on this! Larry |

Great question: I definitely have a routine. By the way, I've been blogging since Sept 2009 and my routine has changed very little since then. I've been consistent. You can look at my blog and see it's doing pretty okay. I've never worried about blog directories, or submitting content to other sites, or worried about chasing back lnks. I write content. I do most of my writing over the weekend and then schedule about 3 posts per week. I have been using twitter to heavily promote my blog. I look for people on twitter that are into the same niche as me (coffee) and I follow them and talk with them. I want to build relationships. Other coffee fans mean that I might learn from them, and they might visit my blog. I've invested a lot of hours in twitter and it's been really successful. I visit a few blogs on a regular basis and leave comments - Other bloggers in the same niche where I've had a friendly relationship with them through twitter conversations, or just blogs that I like. I don't leave as many comments as I would like because of lack of time. It probably only averages out to one or two comments per day, at most. And that is it. My blog is now a PR 4 and doing okay! Come see.

I have a few different blogs and my routine is a little different for each. I think the best thing you can do is to work hard to identify what the best community would be for your blog and then start promoting there. (Or if you already have decent readership, evaluating which are already your strongest communities.) Many people choose Twitter, but it could also be Facebook, Youtube, an email list or other places. For Melody, it's definitely Twitter. She spends a lot of time building connections there and sharing content that others have written, so when she writes a post herself, people always want to read it. What you definitely want to avoid is auto-posting to Facebook or Twitter without doing much other engagement; your posts will come off as blatant self-promotion and you'll get tuned out very quickly. If you keep up a good ratio of your stuff to others' stuff, you'll get a lot more attention. Overall, I think that people with a long checklist of sites for promoting every post are not using their time very well. They would be much better off picking one place and really getting involved in that community.

I post my blog on Facebook and my Facebook Fan Page. I also tweet them. I send out weekly/biweekly email updates to my friends and family (not everyone's on Facebook yet), and in those emails, I usually link to my blog in such a way that they feel like they HAVE to read it to keep up with what's going on in my life That's about it, though. I'd rather grow it by becoming part of a community (like this one).

Thanks for all your input! Sounds like I've got to just keep cranking out the content. Just wish there was a way to grow my audience faster. Larry myblog: lourceyphoto.com |

A routine is preferable if you focus on delivering updated information. Every now and then however, it's good to break this, and concentrate on something completely different. This way the ensemble will look much more realistic and trustful. ______________ Lloyd Burrell Publisher Office Desk Reviews |
