What to do after you press publish....

Once you've written your post and pressed publish, what do you do?

At the moment, I tweet and link to Facebook and occasionally use Stumble Upon but is there anything else I should be doing?

make sure your blog/site is linked to several social bookmarking and directories so that when you click publish, it is automatically posted to several sites. Websites such as FriendFeed helps.

You should find blog posts directly related to your specific topic (staying in the same niche, but ignoring the topic may be too vague) and comment leaving backlinks. You may even do this before actually publishing. As a first move, a few comments a few days before should suffice.

I think what you are doing is perfectly fine. I do mostly the same things when I post a new article. I'm trying to change my focus from social bookmarking to SEO for a little while as I feel that I've been neglecting this aspect of blogging BUT that being said I still manage to send out a tweet or two per post.

I actually move on to write the next one, lol. I know that's not what you're asking for, but what works for me is if I sit down and write several posts at once, schedule them, and then market and such at other times.

You should start to build backlinks for your post to get it higly visible in Google but how?
Commenting other similar blog posts?

• submit to blogcarnival.com
• add link to Facebook and Twitter
• If I'm online on Yahoo Messenger, put a link for it next to my avatar (status update, i'm not sure what it's called)
• find forums to my niche and share the link (check the forums rules first), as long as it's related to the forum thread
• pray everything i did gets more traffic
