Yes Craigslist is a great traffic source, and yes it is possible to use it without being spammy. I post adds in the writing gigs section asking for guest writers. I post in the rants and raves section if my blog post qualifies, I also post in the general community section. So far Ive been doing this all week and its working out well. Has any one else tried this. If so what cities gets the best results?

I had not heard of using Craigslist that way. I think it might actually work without being spammy. I may give it a try.

Hmm, I haven't considered this either but it could work if you don't overdo it.

But they've recently instituted a policy where you have to verify your account with a phone number which makes it more difficult. And they won't let you verify with a VOIP number or a Google voice number either. So you've got to set up your one account and use it right, or you're outta luck. Craigslist used to be way easier... |

Very bad idea to do this regularly. I have used Craigslist for years, and I know they are touchy about spam. Regulars there consider links to a blog or site in a post to be spam. Not saying to not do it, but just do it once a week or so to avoid losing your account. It is very easy to get blocked on Craigslist as all it takes is a spam report to the abuse @ craigslist email.

I doubt that this will last long-term. As you mentioned in your post, you've only been doing it about a week. Craigslist does not appreciate spam -- and even if you're careful not to be "spammy", there are some very by-the-book users that will flag you anyway and eventually get you banned.
