yeah, money should not be the first objective in blogging. i use it as my outlet to share all the useless information i have obtained. if it picks up money, then i guess it wasn't so useless.

Actually nothing wrong to build a blog in order to make money out of it. But others got their points, it is not that easy, you have to learn to provide values by giving quality content, and build relationship with others first. In addition, you need to build a professional blog to attract visitors.

Later, you can add some monetization such as sell affiliate products, sell ad space, or even make money from google adsense. There are actually many ways to monetize your blog....

My money-making blog is for both. I wanted to be a known figure in the brand new niche, and I also wanted to make a bit of money for it.
Though, my money goes towards my topic.
With the income I make from that gaming blog, I will spend it on the game and my blog.

But I think it is good advice to tell to wait till you have some respectable Google rank. (check with SEO quake)

Now, I'd like to make sure... wasn't this thread started under "Making money with a blog" ?! It seems to me that it was posted in the right place. Yes, it takes time and such, but that does not mean we should tell the guy that it's not going to work?!
