Blogspot does a lot for you and is simpler for people who don't want to have to learn all that much on how to change layouts and such as it has preset things and menus and such... but has quite a few limitations. Wordpress if installed on your own domain can do pretty much anything you want if you are willing to take the time and actually learn how to do it all yourself without the convenient designing tools blogspot comes with. Neither is better for use. Both are excellent blogging tools depending on your needs. |

This is usually how it goes: Wordpress users say Wordpress is best, and Blogger users say Blogger is best. I don't think either platform is better than the other. Which platform is "best" is just an opinion and it all depends on what kind of blogger you are. Probably the best thing for you to do is to try them both, and see which one is right for you.

Or, Blogspot sucks, WP rocks and vice versa. All joking aside, the only way to tell which platform meets your needs is to test drive them yourself. If you have a Google account, all ya gotta' do is click on Blogger in your settings page and away you go. If you want to try WP, then sign up for a free account and give it a try as well. You could even set up an account at each and share posts on each platform to get a feel about how the process works for each. Let us know what you decide to do. |

I always vote for wordpress, but as you can see by this thread, it's a never-ending debate!

Assuming you mean wordpress.com (not the self-hosted version of Wordpress), its main disadvantage is that you cannot monetize your wordpress.com blog as it is against their terms of service. Otherwise, wordpress is probably a better long-term solution.

My two cents: I'm assuming we're discussing Self-Hosted Wordpress and not the Wordpress.com accounts. Wordpress due to its self hosted nature makes it incredibly versatile and flexible not just as a blog but as a fully fledged CMS/Forum/Picture Gallery etc. There are hundreds if not hundreds of thousands of modifications you can make to your wordpress blog, If you're relativley comfortable with php you can even make your own mods to suit your needs. There is also the the versatile nature of its skinning system if you are a comfortable CSS junkie and a quick google search can find you examples of beautifuly designed Wordpress blogs. One of the truly great things about Self-hosted Wordpress is its ability to update server side and will do all your updates for you (which touchwood hasn't failed me yet but I make regular backups of my MYSQL database just incase), aslo if you one day decide that your hosting service is naff and get a new one Wordpress makes it a really simple 5-minute job to reset up your site back to its former glory on your new host. However as mentioned if your not going to play it safe wordpress can be an absolute nightmare. If one day something does happen and you've not taken the necesarry precautions you can find that you lose months even years of progress. I know I spent several late nights trying to recover a corrupted mysql database. If you are absolutely comfortable fronting the costs and spending a good few hours setting up your website and your willing to work through any kinks and creases wordpress will really make your blogging experience enjoyable. Blogger on the other hand is really a different kettle of fish, and dont let anyone lie to you and say "if you want to make it blogging you need self hosted wordpress" Gorrilavsbear used to be on blogger till they were banned from the network and its a hugely popular music blog. Blogger however is designed to make blogging capable for even the dumbest of internet users but using it doesn't make you dumb. It doesn't come with the same flexibility as Wordpress, but within five minutes you can be writing your blog with a fully designed blog ( although maybe not with the same level as a well designed wordpress blog) but there is still some very nicely designed blogger blogs and it is becoming more flexible in design. You cant move from your host with blogger, but with Google controlling all hosting responsibilities you shouldn't ever need to worry about uptime, speed or anything like that. Really all you can do is try 'em both out and see which shoe fits best tbh. Good luck! |
