Default Getting people to Blog

Hello

I work for a digital agency which has a comapny blog. At the moment it is updated by the same old people in the company.

Ideally we would like more contributions from more employees without a 'blog or you're fired' approach.

Any ideas for motivating people to blog within a company?

Put up ads on the blogs and share that money with the guys. The blog page that gets more hits, gets more money generated from the ad revenue.

You could always ask those who blog regularly to start motivatin other people in their department. I also find AlanGNW's idea of rewarding those who blog a good idea. I'm not too fond of putting up ads and sharing the money but maybe those who blog the most (not spam of course but real content) get half a day off or something. Depending on what exactly your company is doing you could also put up coupons or give-aways as prizes. Be creative!

Of course you could always rely on doing something like 'ordering' every department to contribute one blog per week that's NOT by those who already blog on a regular basis. Like homework just cooler. Maybe with time some more people will realize how much fun it can be.

Also, I don't know if you give them any particular topics to talk about in their blogs but if you don't already you could maybe give out some suggestions.

I've found if you promote the blog correctly and it's getting traffic, those who write the blog post will enjoy them more and be more active.
ofcourse, this is a catch 22, u need content to be active, etc..
If you allow them to use the post to build their portfolio, it will help create incentive.

Have you considered asking the people within your department what would motivate them to do a blog post? Surprisingly, you might get some good feedback. Yes, you will get the joker who is going to tell you a million bucks, but for some people it might be something as simple as a half day of paid time ... provided of course your company will go for rewards such as that ....

Did you not pay attention? He said he didn't want to order them to write. And the question still is whether they have the finances to pay more as a reward for blogging.
