Blogging is ideal to help rank well in search engines. Why? Because blogs are topical, additionally they are regularly updated, there is nothing search engines like more than new fresh content on a regular basis.

Yeah, the SEO benefits are huge for your website and your brand, but it's also a great tool to use for communicating more directly with your customers and provides opportunities for them to connect more easily on social media. (I'm assuming you're talking about some sort of business...)

One way I helped my ecommerce site is by having a blog that takes a product from my store and actually talk about it. I describe it, include history if there is one, and engage my audience about products I sell. It offers links to my store and a more informative reason to buy it than I can put on a product page.

Another great way is by reaching out to blogs that post within a similar theme to your website and have them give reviews of what your website has to offer. For example, I know a lot of people who sell Scentsy candles, so in exchange for the blog owner hosting a "Scentsy Party" (even a virtual one) they will give them free products to giveaway in their blog. Hopefully that made sense...

I think that the answer depends pretty heavily on what type of website you have.

I think you'd get better answers if, as ChickenFreak said, people answering knew what your site is.
