Hi all, I've become so disheartened with rejection letters from agents and publishers regarding my book, that I've decided to respond to the latest one rejecting their rejection letter. My plan is to send a petition with the letter, holding the name of r everyone I can find who wants to see my book in print! Please can you read my blog and, if you like it, sign the petition? My blog is here, and the petition is here. Thanks so much! Ben

Why don't you self publish? Use a site like Lulu and just handle the publishing yourself.

I agree with Web Design, self publishing is the way to go.

My understanding is that self publishing rarely results in selling many copies, or in making a profit. It's difficult for a single person to be writer, editor, marketer, graphic designer, typeface designer, distributor, contract negotiator - basically, it's difficult for a single person to do many jobs at a competitive level, all at once, and therefore self publishers seldom make much, or perhaps even any, money. And self publishing isn't generally considered to be a "real" publishing credit that you can point to later on when pitching another book at the publishers.

I run a freelance writing agency. We ghostwrite about 20 books a year and edit many more. This does NOT make me an expert in publishing, but I have see a few things. If you publish through Lulu or iUniverse, be prepared to beat the bushes for sales, and make a modest royalty. If you self publish (through a regular printer), be prepared to beat the bushes for sales, and make upwards of 60% of the price (net). If you publish through a publishing house, be prepared to beat the bushes for sales, and make a modest royalty. If you are famous enough that the publishing houses are braking down your door, contract in hand, be prepared to beat the golf course for par...while your royalties are being tabulated.

I too am trying to get published. I am taking a break from queries and coming back in a little bit for another try. I feel for you but I really do not recommend responding to a rejection this way. Agents talk.... remember that.
