I have found blog commenting on do follow blogs is good to increase links. Now don't count out no follow blogs if you comment regularly and get to know the blogger then guest posting or other marketing opportunities may arise. Growing a network is always good and commenting is a great way to meet new people.

Commenting can help increase traffic. Make sure your comments actually relate to the post and add something to the discussion brought up by the original poster. Often times your comment will not be published by a person who thinks it's merely spam trying to use their blog as a way to promote their own site.

I say yes, it is a lot of effort and may not pay off but can help When I comment on a blog it is because I am interested in the post and having something valid to say I tend to visit the blog of anyone who comments on mine with something so assume that others might do the same...or maybe I jsut have too much time on my hands! If you want traffic from commenting definitely target where you are commenting, blogs of the same niche are the way to go!

I wouldn't say it hurts you to comment on blog posts however, I would not dedicate hours upon hours of searching for blogs to comment on. My suggestion - find blogs you like read their posts regularly and when something raises a question or makes you want to raise your voice then leave a thoughtful comment. Don't go around spamming comments like "sweet post doode visit my site at xxx.xxx" that wont get you far as most of those comments will never get published anyway

I definitely have found blog commenting helpful. But you have to leave QUALITY comments (nothing even remotely spam like) in active blogs in your same niche ... at least that's been my approach.

Yes but blog commenting is mainly for aquiring links and not traffic. If you are after traffic try social networking sites like Facebook and submitting to social bookmarking sites.
