Does directory submission get any traffic/

I have yet to get any traffic other than maybe a single click from a directory submission. I do however, submit by hand to hundreds of directories for link building purposes. Regardless of what others have said or may disagree with, I can tell you right off that I have had a blog go from non-indexed to PR4 in a month just through directory submissions.

Quality content on your blog has nothing to do with directory submissions as they have different goals.

As you can see from my posts in this thread, I am a cynic about directory submission, but I think it possible can have a limited use for building back links. I would think, though, that Google should be able to tell the difference between a contextual link and a directory site. ??

For some odds it doesn't. Number of characters in page divided to number of links in page isn't a part of Google's algorithm what I tested out.

I have submitted my websites to a number of directories in the past. Usually there has been very little traffic from it. However, it has been an important part of SEO because it can definitely help achieve higher rankings if you do it right.

Thank of directory submission just as your forum signature.
Don't expect to get many hits out of it (if any at all). I only make directory submissions because I don't want all my backlinks coming from the few forums I participate at, cause I heard it's way better to have 10 links coming from 10 different sources, than 10 links coming from 1 or 2 sources
