Why Links Are More Important Than Your Text

If you are trying to improve your search engine traffic ranking, remember that Google thinks that links (both from your own site and other people's) to your blog are WAY more important than the special keywords you put in your text. Two helpful little hints: Make sure that your links that direct back to your blog do NOT say "click here." It must include the keywords you are interested in. Also, it is important the title tag includes your keywords.

While I agree that links are important as far as SEO and Pagerank are concerned, I don't agree it is more important than the text or content on your site. Bottom line, if you content sucks you won't get quality links.

I am another one who would disagree with this. I had a site I was working on for someone and I got them to a pr of 5. They appeared on the first page of google for their keywords then later that week they changed their website design to a not so seo friendly design and they dropped to page 3. On page is more imortant than off page...

hmmm, i think i am good keyword wise, but backlink wise i am behind. i just have about twenty backlinks for now

yes backlink wise and of course the content and keyword must be useful

I think both on page optimization and backlinks are important. If Google has trouble spidering your website or your keywords aren't optimized correctly you will still have problems getting good results in the SERPS

Why do you have to choose?

I guess there are only so many hours in the day, but I think that both SEO methods can be extremely effective:

• Off page is neat because you can be a little more shameless, haha, since it's not really for clients (unless you want it to be). It's also more conducive to the frequent updating that Google loves so much, via twitter, blogs, etc.
• On page, on the other hand, can actually enhance the website for potential customers. And I mean, if you can't cram your keywords into your content... maybe you need to pick better keywords.
