Hi everyone! I am a flute player, flute playing being my life - NOT a hobby. So I have to ask, do you do blogging simply for the income? When I started blogging, I didn't even know income was an option! Blogging is an outlet for me. A Hobby. A way to show off my writing skills and share my ideas and life with others. So what about you? Is blogging a hobby, or an income?

Blogging for me is a hobby. I've enjoyed writing and enjoy the idea of sharing my idea's with other people. However, the fact that, there is the possibility of earning a couple extra dollars on the side then I am happy to take it. I definitely don't plan on having blogging replace my career. |

Well, after years in the business, can't say I really work for free anymore. Even if my projects started out of passion, I consider it's a good idea to monetize.

Wow, you both raise great points! Perhaps after my blog's audience increases over one (my sister in law), I will look further into monetizing.

please consider this. Making some money out of your work really gives the motivation to not stop. When you're working for 2-3 years for free, you lose passion. In the end it all goes through the stomach, like love

Yeah good point. I started my reading before I started my blog, so it's a personal fulfillment thing that I wanted to share with the world. However, as a college student studying to be a professional musician, I think I need all the money I can get!

It's more of a personal project for me at the moment. I enjoy writing and I find it helps to refine and articulate my views. I've been lucky enough to have a surprising amount of viewers, especially considering it's been up for only about 2 weeks, so if things go well in the future I might become motivated to stretch further. However, currently I do it solely because I enjoy it and I find the viewers and comments to be both rewarding and interesting. Blogging is great little venture.

Perhaps I could use the income to enhance my blog. I am trying to buy a Nook so it will be easier to take books on the road with me (trips, school, etc) so perhaps I could use money from ads to invest in a Nook! That way it's my blog helping me help my blog!

| I plan on using most of the income I make from my blog to enhance my blog. Be it pay for web hosting costs or even possibly giving back to the viewers with contests or free merchandise if my blog can grow that far.

I really love blogging, but I monetize my blog because I could use the extra income. It's nothing wrong with making some extra money doing what you love to do.
