I was hoping someone with a little experience could give me a few words of advice in getting my blog seen on the web.

I have been going blind on my computer looking for answers.

Subscribe to blog directories, write interesting content and post to forums...

Forum subscriptions, comment appropriately on other blogs, submit to ping engines etc., keep the content interesting, advertise to friends etc., and on relevant boards.

There's plenty of ways to go about it if you're willing. Gaining the activity and traffic is hard work - but having interesting and valuable content makes it all the easier. Focus on that first.

Write about ten articles then submit your site to rss directories. Use twiiter as a social platform for a while then slowly intruduce you blog. Start a facebook fan page, make a lot of friends on facebook, be interested in them and they will be interested in you. If you are using wordpress use google xml sitemap creator to submit a good sitemap for search engines. Also install all in one seo.

Participate in forums link this and ask people to review your site once you are able to post a link.

Once a while you can submit your post to stumbleupon. if you are lucky you can get 1 or 2k page view per day. But rmb do not spam or you will get ban.
