You can add another source of income to your blog by adding a "donate" button. This is for your loyal users who appreciate your posts. If you are uncomfortable doing this, another way to recieve donations is to contribute a portion of your donation proceeds to your favorite charity (make sure your readers know this!). Make a nice looking button and link it to a paypal account. This can easily be done by going to paypal.com and clicking on the resources tab. Scroll down and click on the donations link. It is pretty user friendly. Good luck!

In general, donation buttons rarely work. I suppose if someone finds your article/blog helpful or profitable they might drop a few dollars in your tip jar. Some people are averse to donation buttons because think it's a form of begging. I think they're quite legitimate.

Has anyone had any real success with donation buttons? I am interested to know.

I think that would only work if you had a vast amount of traffic :O

| Agree with you. Usually site that provide program develop by them to the public or providing free tutorial will most likely get donation.

I just added one as well. I call it a "Buy me a Coffee" button (since I'm under 21 I don't want people to think I actually want alcohol if I used a "Buy me a Beer" page). Not really expecting donations, but you never know. Back when I had a podcast, I kept a donation button on my page, not really expecting anything either. However a few people actually did give out generous donations after listening to episodes. |

I was always against this, even when people would place that "buy me a beer" button. I myself am less inclined to donate, when asked, and it looks like pure begging. I'd rather try push some advertising sales than ask for donations.
