Some relevant info...from my research and hands on experience, keyword directory relevance is crucial when first implementing a blog. You need to be registered in about 5 before SE's start progressively moving you up the rankings on their landing pages based on your content and keyword base structure.
Randomly subscribing your blog in any and all directories would be a waste of time. Making sure they're registered in the proper niche associated with the blog in question and the PR of the directory it's submitted to can help your blog's rankings substantially. IMO

Nice summary on the topic of submitting blogs to a blog directory. There are many out there. Some you have to pay, others are free. A simple Google search will provide hundreds, if not thousands to choose form.

I think madakiya touched on it, but my advice for getting listed into blog directories is to make sure your blog is ready for prime time. Make sure you have a good pattern of useful posts covering an extended period of time.

Some of the better directories have specific requirements for number of posts and the amount of time you have been blogging.
