I've heard, looking through the forum and related links, that you can use a Twitter profile to promote your blog. Can anybody suggest to me whether I should set up a personal ID for me, and use that for promotion, or make a Twitter page for the blog itself, and use that? Thanks |

I prefer the self branding technique where you create a Twitter profile for yourself, rather than for the brand of the blog. That way people actually get to chat with a real person on Twitter. You can also promote more than 1 blog this way as well.

Thanks for the advice guys. Another question, I've read somewhere about adding people who are listed with similar interests as you, as these are the people most likely to visit your blog. I currently use Facebook, and it would be considered unusual to add someone as a friend who you've never met or spoken to. Is adding unknown people more acceptable under Twitter etiquette? Once again, thanks for the advice. |

It is a good strategy to add people that have similar interests as you. It definitely helps because these people are more engaged.

Yeah, with Twitter I find the best thing is to be authentic and do it primarily for your enjoyment. If you treat it like a chore and do nothing but promotion, people will unfollow you pretty quickly. Follow people you like, many will give you a courtesy follow for a day or so anyway, and after that just try to be worth following with quality tweets. I read an article that said to treat each blog post as an opportunity to convince people to keep following you. Treat twitter the same way. |

One Firefox add-on I am finding very useful is Twitterbar. You can post tweets direct from your browser address bar to multiple twitter accounts. The neat function for bloggers is that you can get your latest blog post page up and after the URL in the address bar type --post and it automatically makes a link to that page in your tweet. |
