Lots of followers right off the bat

I learned this little trick from a very successful blogger. I think his name was Jon. Anyways, when he first started out, he had somebody else who owned a very successful blog to feature Jon's blog in one of his posts. All the blogger did was feature and introduce Jon (and what Jon's blog was all about). This immediately got him a huge amounts of followers right off the bat. I imagine he traded free products or paid a fee for this type of publicity, but it is a great idea.
