I agree, you will have more traffic if you have genuine commenting to other blogs which fit with your interest, just be yourself

I have ran a blog for quite some time now (over two years) and my traffic varies widely. Unlike many bloggers who post every day of the week, I sometimes go without posting for many months. When I am good about making new, engaging, creative posts, my traffic shoots up. Then of course when I decide that I don't have time, it plummets back from whence it came

Personally i have found that the "field of dreams" approach seldom works in real life, unless you trully are early in the market with a topic that will become a trend.

I have experienced that myself on search terms including "3rd generation iPod Touch" and more recently with "4th generation iPod Touch". But then again i have been running my site for over 3 years now and have built up some cred i believe with the search engines that will allow my new content to be picked up in a better way than if i was brand new.

Key i find is always to deliver interesting and relevant content for your target audience, and network / build links within your community.
