Free Directories

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of link building for my site and have registered for the following free directories:

DMOZ
Globe of Blogs
LS Blogs
Best of the Web
Blog Catalog
WOW Directory

My question is - does anybody know of any other free directories that are worthwhile?

I am really thinking if web directories are still in demand!
Directories are a passe now, i would suggest you to go for blog commenting in order to build backlinks.

Hey Chrono,

Our site, Scribnia, isn't exactly a "directory" but you can add yourself as a writer to our site. It will produce a link but that's not the main purpose.

It allows readers to write a review of you as a writer and it will recommend your site to users that our algorithm determines would be interested in your writing.

In our experience, directories are much less effective than they used to be a couple of years ago.

At this moment, we would consider submitting only to such directories that get regularly crawled and cached by Google.

You could start from my Free Internet Directories List. Those has been tested out. I had a great success with two sites to get those listed on top in Google with the keywords I used in link anchor text.

I don't think that directories are worthwhile. Invest the time in something else. The only two directories that might be worth submitting to is DMOZ and the Yahoo Directory. I wouldn't submit to anything else.

You can get yourself to top in Google on keywords you have used in your link anchor text when you get enough backlinks from directories. For me it took over 700 submissions getting over 250 links alive. Really time wasting are those directories, who claimed to be free still asking money and those who never will put your link live. From some 3000 free directory list you will get 50% of them still paid, 40% of them are out of business and 40% never put your link live. The remaining 10% is OK.

Any directory or type of site that requires you link back is usually benefiting more than you.

From there you can submit your site to many directories..more than 400.
