I was wondering what pattern to expect with a sucessful blog in terms of population growth... Could anyone give an indiction of how long it took to get up to 1000 hits per day, and what the graph looked like... |

I have been blogging for a year and a half now and I haven't even come close to a 1000 hits a day. If I am lucky I get 100 hits. But then again there are other blogs out there that report around 100,000 hits per month just after half a year. It really does depend on what techniques you use and whether or not you already know successful bloggers that might help you with your start up. But even though I am not getting many visits at the moment it is getting better and better so I really can't complain Just keep up blogging

When you say "hits" do you mean "vistors"? I have been blogging for 3 to 4 months, and I average roughly 140 to 150 visitors each day. I think it is going to be a long time before you're at 1000 visitors each day! My visitors number goes down if I'm not posting new content about 2 (at the very minimum) to 3 times per week. But no matter what anyone says, you have to have great content to have a popular busy blog. If you focus on high quality blog posts with some unique content, the rest will eventually fall in to place, I think.

After about a year and a half my oldest blog gets about 350 visitors a day. The blog visitor graph will look like a gradual climb with dips at each weekend. In addition there may be occasional spikes where your content becomes incredibly popular on Reddit or Digg. (My biggest spike was 3000 visitors in one day). However, in general it will be a slow upward climb with occasional valleys or downward trends. Here is my current traffic graph: ![]() I installed GA on my blog after I had already blogged for a number of months so it is missing a few months of early activity but you can still see the general trends.

Nathan thanks for posting your graph! Interesting! I had noticed that I seem to have mid-week peaks in my visitors too, and that it drops off a little over the weekend. I think lots of people are at work visiting blogs. I uploaded my graph too, for my blog which was brand new right around 9-9-09.

Yep, that looks pretty standard. The midweek peaks will be about twice as many visitors as you will get on the weekend. I also see lower spots in my traffic to that blog because it is aimed at children and sees most of its traffic during school hours from children doing research for school. During summer and winter vacation Inkweaver Review's traffic drops precipitously.
