What Kind of Marketing Technique Do You Use in Order to Attract Visitors?

What techniques do you use? Through which do you get most of your traffic?

Hi all. I like using Twitter with two names, commenting on other blogs in my niches, and using good keywords in my blog descriptions. I also try to use guest posters sometimes, who like to have another forum for their writing.

I have a few articles out there that bring traffic to my other sites, which link to my blog too. I have a Yahoo group and a forum plus a newsletter I just started too. I put interesting blogs from other people that I like on my blog too. I know there are a lot of other things I need to do, but this is what I have going so far.

@lilymom I have been using Twitter but not really anymore because it does bring traffic to my blog but as with all social media most of the people coming through it are not really into the content you are presenting.

@fabiolus very interesting idea. I would be interested whether or not it drives a lot of traffic to your web site but I guess that's hard to find out.

@blogaboutnothin yeah guest posts are worth it. Especially on well-known blogs.

@sandy hmm how much traffic do you get through it that way? Are the visitors really interested in the content?!

@stacy Do you use your personal facebook page to get people on your blog? I guess it does work better with web sites that are about things such as cooking!? Please tell me if I am wrong :P

@melody great content is really important and that's actually what I focus most on. I have also been starting to take a look at Squidoo lenses to see whether they could drive traffic to my web site. Will see :P

@poorly Yeah Youtube channels are quite effective especially if you have lots of subscribers like you do.

@maccam SEO is important too. At the moment I am trying out some different SEO methods to drive more traffic to my blog

@betsyanne seems like you use lots of different strategies. Are they really keeping you busy or do you spend a lot of time working on these several sites?!

hmm but are these visitors you get through social networking web sites really interested in your content? Do they click on links?!

I should note in the below that my traffic is still _really really small_ - about thirty visits, twenty visitors, forty-five pageviews, per day.

I thought that the Facebook traffic spikes that I've gotten (from companies pointing to my review of their product) were worthless, because almost none of the "spike" visitors looked at anything but the featured page on the day of the spike.

But in just the past few days, I realized that my daily graph of visitors jumped up slightly but unmistakably after each spike, that it stayed at the new level, and that I started getting a lot of Google hits based on my blog name, where I'd had very few of those search strings before. So it appears that people came, read, left, but remembered my name, and then came back another day by searching on the name.

So I now have more respect for those spikes.

(Did I write all this in another post recently? I suspect so.)

Interesting point. I might have to try to use social media a little bit more. Did you actually sell anything through these visitors? Or did they just come back to look at the same article?

The blog doesn't have ads or sell anything, so I don't know if they would have bought anything if there were anything to buy. But I think that they came to look at other content on the blog, because the original posts that got the spike didn't have a disproportionate number of pageviews after the day of the spike.
