The importance of commenting on blogs

I realize that commenting on other blogs is a great way to get links back to your site, but I rarely put forth alot of effort. I am trying to do this more - to make meaningful comments.

I posted on a VERY popular blog yesterday and my comment was one of 314 during the day. I got 3 hits off that little comment! (My site is hidden behind my name, so you have to make an effort too). WOW, I guess I should really spend as much time commenting as I do writing and researching! 3 views is not alot, but you never know when a random reader will follow you.

I love to analyze my blog stats and it is a really great feeling to know you have faithful readers all over the world!

I agree with you on that. If you make few short posts here and there those 3 per site will defiantly add up. One place that works really well is Yahoo answers. Answer questions that are revenant to your site or your post and direct people to your site that way.

Besides the few visitors you get from that particular blog you commented on, you'll also build links and eventually if you build enough, you'll see a lot of visitors coming from search engines as well.

So even though your site link is hidden under your name, it counts as a backlink?

That depends on if it is a "nofollow" or "dofollow" link. That matters for Google, I'm not quite as sure about Yahoo or Bing.

blog commenting is a great way to get to know bloggers within your niche. I comment on a few related blogs and ended up getting a link from them.

What's the difference, nofollow, dofollow??

if its no follow se bot will simply... not follow it and will net get to your site, i guess this make it also value 0 as a backlink but smb correct me if im wrong

I got only 1 visitor of making 30 comments yesterday in different blogs. BTW, I will get useful link juice for my blog. AM I correct?

Stacy I think you're right about blog comments though a person has to be careful not to sound spammy. The other thing is if you comment at a totally quiet blog, you can't expect too much traffic back.
