My blog Planet Client (can't submit link yet) has been going since June. I'm a journalist, so I take it pretty seriously because it's designed to showcase my writing, and to generate business for a client loyalty venture I run called Sticky Clients. I've followed many of the promotional tips on ProBlogger, but traffic resolutely refuses to climb (it's stuck at around 60-80 daily page impressions). I've read that it takes a year to get a blog really going (with quality content taken as a given). Has this been others' experience? I'd be really interested to get some kind of handle on this. Thanks in advance for any insights. Sean |

Well, I'd say it depends on what you mean by "going". I have a blog that is a year and a half old and it gets about 400 hits a day. I have another that I started in June and it gets nearly 200 a day. Depending on the subject and how much promotion/SEO you do a blog can get going very quickly or it can take a long time.

I started a new blog friday night after reading some tips around here. I spent a lot of time promoting this blog over the weekend, and still working on it. It was indexed by google saturday night and has had 71 visits according to google analytics, that was last night...so I would say if you put in the effort it will gain traffic

I am happy with my blog although it does not have better traffic than yours guys I still keep on.... I am focus on how to keep my blogs interesting and I make my blog simple. It is good to get advice from the professional bloggers and other SEO tips over the internet, actually it really helps but the most important is the content which only you can help yourself about it. I do it in a conservative way. I am not in rush to get more traffic. What is the use of getting good traffic without gaining real followers? The real followers are those who do not publish that they are following you..and I am happy that I have gain some unpublished followers! For me to become successful in blogging you have to be consistent, happy and do not expect that you will earn instantly. In conclusion, first keep on writing interesting articles....that's important and secondly, do your own marketing, listen to the advice of those who are already there. Happy blogging! Good luck :-) |

There are a lot of factors with blog exposure. Just two is: your topic and SE exposure. That's just two. Example: If your topic is saturated with other blogs, good luck getting exposure on Google. There are too many ahead of you.

Also, I believe if you add ads (e.g. adsense) too soon, as I found out, your blog may get held back in search results. Have you tried submitting to popular blog directories; This has helped for some of my blogs in terms of displaying on page 1 of Google results for certain keywords.

A year - no way! if you're recycling other peoples content, then traffic will be patchy and disapointing - unless you automate and churn out bucketloads of content "quality content" is original content - and if you do correct keyword research, and use good keywords in title, description, keyword metatags, as well as several times in the blog post you should be getting traffic to your original blog posts within a few weeks keyword research is the key - and I suspect this is where your problem lies |
