I already started a thread on technorati favourite exchange, which I hope will be successful but the real key for SEO I believe is link exchange because search engines will deem you as important if you are in the link lists of other sites, it matters little whether its a small-time site or an Internet king its just a good idea to build up a large number of links. The best way to do this is link exchange, so here are the links to my blogs you don't have to add all of them just choose one of your choice and ill do the same for you. I know this has been very successful elsewhere , so let's give it a go here: Game Villa SV Movies Tech Wise Sports World

Link exchanges are good, but you need to have a lot more links coming in than you do going out. Best way to do this is build a quality blog that people will want to link to.

Yeah that takes a lot of time but you're right. An exchange ensures equal benefit though.

You are both right. All links do help, however the relevance and weight is different depending on how established the site is. For instance a homepage link from one of the most trusted and respected sites in your field with whatever anchor text will do much more for you ranking in that key term than say 1000 blogspot links from blogs with say 2-3 posts and even less links. SE's have figured ways to devalue useless links because that was popular in the past and lead to lots of spammy junky posts, blogs etc... Relevance is the keyword to pay attention to though.

It will help but not as much. I'd try and stick directly in things that are relevant. IF you are going for non relevant make sure it is atleast a very strong PR, PS if not it will be of very little value. SE's are getting very smart; relevance is the name of the game. You want relevant links that have lots of inbound links to them. As someone else eluded to just make a great site and others in your niche will either link with you or do blogroll exchanges. Best of luck, Rob

Thanks for the advice. Its a bit of a catch 22 situation, in order to get traffic you have to have links but in order to get external links you have to get trafiic, particularly from your niche.

Yes it is but a lot of people would not be willing to link to you unless you offer an exchange I reckon.

F8, You basically sum it up, although there are NO barriers to entry in the blogosphere there are some serious barriers to entry regarding traffic / authority / inbound links. Unless you are already someone it's difficult unless you are producing original superstar content that makes you instantly a someone by other respected bloggers linking to you. I guess that is why it's of such VITAL importance that you blog about something you are passionate about or... You'll never create the content to get you in the "crew". Also some niches are much easier to get links than others. Ones that are typically far from SEO / Money Making are easy to blog roll exchange with regardless of your PR / traffic etc... Closer you are to SEO / Money $$$ the more intense it becomes as they gauge your rank, traffic , page strength, and with the money ones it's just no exchange but links "for sale or for rent".
