These sites usually don't do anything for you. I would just concentrate on content and let the search engines find your site. If you do want additional traffic, link exchanges are certainly worth the work.

So far my experience with link exchanges have not been great. I might be looking at the wrong link exchanges though. I've found that I get an increase in people visiting the site but not clicking on any articles. For example, I signed up for EasyTraffic4U (as recommended by a post on Bloggeries) basically it gives you a chance to 'surf' websites people have added to their directory. I use the term 'surf' loosely as their idea of surfing is remaining on one page for at least 15 seconds, clicking on the correct answer to a catpcha to progress to the next page. the more sites you visit the more visits to your site you will get. All I've gotten from them is an increase in page loads but no actual clicks on the site.

I'm still really new to this so there may be better quality link exchanges out there that I'm not yet aware of but I'm finding that it's better to use other methods of blog promotion to get quality readers that are actually interested in the material you are writing. Like I said though, I'm a new blogger so I'm sure there are more legitimate sites that will help increase traffic to your blog.

Link Exchanges are not good sources of traffic because usually the only people that sign up for them are people with low traffic. Now if you have low traffic then you have no traffic to give over your link.

So six people with low traffic all sign up and then are irritated when no traffic comes to their blog. But that's because all of them have low traffic blogs.

The best way to get traffic is to focus on real, permanent promotion like SEO.
