Recently, I've been experimenting with the more subtle effects of color on the performance of a website. I wrote a post about my findings, and research on the psychology of color in websites: The Psychology of Color in Webpages - Experiment Garden This leads me to ask you: How do you use color in your blog or website? Do you think that particular colors can have special effects on your readers? How do you match the color of your blog with the audience of your blog?

Nathan, this is an excellent article indeed. May I suggest two things for this excellent blog: 1. What you opening comments for self-hosted bloggers (Name/URL)? 2. What about placing social bookmarking tools so reader can digg/mixx/etc your posts I hope you don't mind my opinion. |

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I've never been into social bookmarking too much. Typically, the available tools, such as ShareThis slow down blog load time, but I may add a few icons to the end of the posts for those who do want to bookmark something. Regarding the Name/URL comments, I think that they are already enabled. I'll have to check my settings and make sure that they are. Thanks for reading the article. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

There's no real psychology behind my color scheme. I was just going for cool colors, nothing warm. My color scheme is basically a monochromatic blue-violet scheme. I think it works well for me although I'm thinking of changing it up and going with an analogous scheme to break up my sidebar content.

I try to choose a thematically and psychologically appropriate color scheme for each of my blogs.. it's pretty simple and I don't put too much time into it, but I'm going to check out your post. Sounds interesting!

It is actually a good idea to add a little highlight color in critical areas. It helps your blog stand out from the pack and can be critical to create a brand of sorts. For me the vivid orange and green logo is a memorable experience for most visitors to Experiment Garden, and so I've started getting repeat visitors who deliberately google "experiment garden" to find my blog again.
