I registered a domain (Make Money Today) on 20th April - just under a month ago

today the site is ranked #7 on yahoo for "make money today" out of 956,000,000

I'm not sure where yahoo came up with 956,000,000 though - google only have 112,000,000 (and I'm not in the first 100)

still, its a good start - can anyone beat it?

Update: the site moved up to #3 a few days ago, and reached #1 yesterday

I don't know if it was just natural, or if the latest tweaks I made to the blog site made the difference

Double check your bloggeries feed, that link seems to be broken (under your name on all your posts)

I see you in 2nd now, just after an ehow post, but hey, the 2nd listing many times will receive more traffic then #1

I believe Google has a thing for .com names (if you know what I mean, wink wink), but the results on Yahoo are awesome, what kind of promotion have you done besides just getting the name?

I got the top 2 under Mox Kirby, of course thats only 15,000 competition (on Yahoo), and
it's my exact .com domain name so all I really needed was to get spidered, and bam! Many of my pages and posts are starting to hit top 20 positions for non-exact phrases, so for a new blog (less then 1 month old), and almost no promotion yet, I definitely can't complain.

Unless make money today is an extremely popular keyword phrase ranking high for that keyword phrase isn't as important as you might think.

Very rarely will search engine visitors use the exact keywords that you expect. Most of the time they will come to your blog using other keywords that may be related to your posts. And that is what is more important, getting traffic for the inner pages of your site, not just the main page.

Keep up the good work though, and you will have a successful blog.

make money today is a real keyword phrase

I chose it a little differently to my usual method as I had a free trial of keyword samurai

basically I chose the phrase based on:
search volume
competition
realistic chance of securing top rankings
adsense value
whether searchers actually click ads ( commercial intent )
what matching domain names were available ( com net org )

I used to always register only .com names - but there's virtually nothing left with any value using 3 or 4 words

google's happy with com net org - but I've read they're very suspicious of .info domains

promotion has just been submitting a couple of articles to 10 to 20 sites that accept guest articles - but they come and go so fast - one week I find 20, but a couple of weeks later the list is down to half

other than that it's just splashing the url about on 2 forums, and echoing my blog posts to a few social network sites

Results 1 - 10 of about 21,400,000 for blog traffic question

I hit #1 on this one today, and it's with a post answering a comment question. Like I said, almost no promotion, just wordpress, all in one seo plug-in, and a few links from this forum and blog comments.

It's not 'blog-traffic-question.com eiter', it's moxkirby.com/blog-traffic-question-from-murray-newlands/

Can't wait till I get a few good diggs, links, and bookmarkings under my belt.

I can beat that. I registered my site www.auctionblot.com and it was ranked #1 in google for the keywords "Auctionblot" and "Auction blot" in under an hour. Booyah!

sorry, Auctionblot doesn't count - not a searched for keyword and no ads on the results page of either google or yahoo for that search

blog traffic question - that's a good one - and on google as well!

showing a couple of adwords ads on the results page - so you may be able to make some money out of the traffic

no rankings on yahoo - no ads either for blog traffic question keyword
