If You Could Give Only One Tip on Blog Marketing - What Would it Be?

The tip I'd give is build a good looking blog with atleast 5-10 posts before even considering doing a link building campaign. First impressions are important in all aspects of our social lives. Many shoot themselves in the foot promoting a site under construction. When it gets denied it slows there momentum and some stop even.

Do yourself a favor and figure it all out on your own side with a site that when someone visits you don't say oh I'm going to fix... Just fix it up and start promoting. One before the other .

What would be your one piece of advice?

This has worked for one of my blogs and I'll continue to do it to my other blogs.

Thanks to both of you for the tips. I've found leaving comments was a great method; especially if you are in similar niches. Unfortunately I've never been the best at responding to comments; will remember to try and respond more in future.

I'd say HAVE A PLAN <- One tip only =)

Start with settling down with a nice, clean theme, do whatever tweaking you want before announcing it in case you screw things up (like I did once, that was a nightmare!), write at least a month's worth of posts so that people who drop by for the first time have enough reasons to comb through your blog, otherwise they'd leave and forget about it, then slowly promote your blog (also according to THE plan) instead of just simply submitting it to directories without keeping track and actively leave enough smart comments on other blogs to entice other bloggers to drop by.

That has worked for me too, and the one tip i would give apart from the above would be to use the way of social bookmarking.

Some of my blogs survive with traffic from social bookmarking sites

I was on the verge of closing down, and then they discovered me

This was the best traffic i got and the numbers were huge and to top it all, it was FREE

Solid PLAN there . I especially like the make sure you have alot of posts before promoting. Promoting is good but not until you have something worthy of promotion!

It's a very useful thread. If i have to suggest you one thing i would say install the diggIT plugin. It really helps to deal with search engines.

use social bookmarking widgets and don't forget to give your visitors the chance to subscribe to your rss feed

My tip: Plan on your niche before starting your blog. Then create your blog and market specifically within your niche.
