Today Google is doing a special logo change to commemorate the 40th anniversary of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," by Eric Carle. Anyway this logo links directly to the search for "eric carle's the very hungry caterpillar." So I wrote a post about "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and posted it on my blog Inkweaver Review. Anyway, here's my idea. If I am able to get the post into the top ten or twenty results I'll probably get tens of thousands of hits from curious Google users who click the modified Google logo and then view the search results for "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." Its been about an hour and a half and so far Google has indexed the new post and put it in the search results, but I'm still not in the top fifty results. Hopefully, I'll start rising through the ranks, and if I reach high enough within the next day I'll get a tremendous amount of traffic. Anyway, its worth a try. I'll keep you posted on the results.

I just made it to the top page of Google Trends following the search term "Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar." I've also received two or three google hits on the page so far. Things are starting to pick up. We'll see where things go.

I've reached page three of the results. I'm getting a few hits here and there. Maybe a total of twenty so far. But the results are definitely there.

Smart guy you are, Nathan, not just about the idea, but to actually took the initiative & carry out the idea. That should prompt some of us to be alert more on the trends. I'm sure we'll be hearing any good news from you soon. More hits on the way hopefully.

Well, the Google promotion is over now, and I only scored about 25 hits on the post yesterday. However, that was still a pretty impressive achievement because Friday is usually the day when traffic reaches is lowest point. So my conclusions from this experiment: When you're dealing with trendy topics you have to get your content out there as soon as possible. Unfortunately, I got my post out there and indexed a few hours late, and therefore I never reached the top. I'm still on page three, but that is an impressive thing considering the number of high PR sites that I was competing with in this. I think that I will be watching Google Trends very closely in the future so that I can get in on topics like this as soon as they start to be popular. Then I'll have more of an edge. So to summarize, I got 25 or so hits this first day, but my page on Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar will be a good traffic magnet in the future, even though the Google promotion is over. Even if I only get one or two hits a day on it this will add up over time, and that is what blogging is all about.

Way to "think outside the box" (though I hate that saying). Nice use of creativity.
