The only reason why I did this was because the Google theme search fit right into my blog's focus. It was the perfect opportunity. The end result was that I only got about 50 hits from the main effort itself, but the blog post is paying off in continuous hits, about two or three a day.

It all works out in the end: more quality content, more hits.

Google has been pretty regular with releasing interesting logo changes that link to a Google search. This technique still applies, especially with seasonal searches and other temporary events.
