Do You Participate in Exchanges?

Do you participate in various exchanges like comment exchange, rss subscriber exchange, Digg exchange etc.?

Do they bring loyal readers or does it just raise stats?

Most exchanges with other webmasters/bloggers just raises stats because they're after the same thing as you. The only exchanges that really help are blog post exchanges or blog roll exchanges because these send traffic from one blog to the other.

That's what I do swap links and write short article about the owner...Of course both parties agree.

Google gets smarter everyday! If you really want to boost your stats in Google, you should do article exchanges, not just link exchanges, it will carry more Google juice. Plus, most people don't look at other websites links, they read the articles, so this will boost your chances of getting trafic from the other site.

I've never gotten into any of them. I mean those ones of "subscribe to my RSS and comment" an win a prize type thing. It's useless really except boosts your RSS feed which well is a waste of time because if it's not going to people who actually want it what good does it do? Maybe it will make your blog more attractive if you sell it I don't know.

The only kind of exchange I think are totally beneficial are blogroll exchanges with other RELEVANT blogs from your niche or one that is a compliment.

I agree with you. RSS and comment exchanges are complete waste of time! I laugh out loud when people list(and others buy) the subscriber/comment packages in EntreCard marketplace.

Here is how a listing goes: "10 RSS Subscribers for 50 Credits" and people still buy! I don't think what help can this do to them?

Nope, I try not to do link exchanges. Instead, I prefer a 3 way exchange. Meaning I have more then one site. If someone will link to my site A. I will link to their site from my site B.

I'm not sure if exchanges work or not, but I just applied for about 4 free ones to test the water... if nothing, then nothing is lost... but thought I would try this route as well... No loss..

exchanges work as long as you are not in a link farm. What works better is guest posting, or getting the other blog owner to write something about your site with good anchored text. It also helps if the site is related.

The best of course is a one way link.
