Default Get Your Blog Noticed!

You can have an absolutely unique and amazing blog but if no one is linked to it how will anyone ever find it?? Search engines are a great source of traffic once you've become established but what do you do before you are picked up on the search engines? How do you get picked up by the search engines?

Hopefully this category will serve as a starting point for anyone who is trying to get their blog some exposure. The more exposure you get the more traffic you get and the more traffic you get ...

If you are using wordpress the first thing I would do after installing it is change the permalinks to date/post title. That will make your blog alot more search engine friendly. Instead of having post=?37 you'll have /your-post-title.htm. A much better choice . (Note: Before changing permalinks try and make sure your .htaccess is readable. This will allow wordpress to change the file automatically; if not you'll have to do it manually.)

Secondly before making my first post I'd create a category (technorati tag) and post a very relevant item in it. Technorati will pick up your blog post almost instantly and if it is a quality post in an appropriate tag there is a good chance you'll be listed on google in a very short time.

It's very important to get listed on the engines; especially google. If you go about it another way it's possible to get in the "sandbox" which is a place where google puts new domains it's not sure about. The sandbox is NOT where you want to be as it can be very depressing to work on a blog but never have engines pick it up. All to often you'll quit because you've put soo much energy in and seeing nothing in return. You don't want to be in the sandbox!

Follow what I said above and you should get listed no problem. I"ve done and seen many others do it. The first few steps you take with your new blog are vital. Make sure you step in the right direction!

Default Blog and Ping

I haven't read all the ins-and-outs to blogging and pinging yet. When I do a blog post on my blog, I use 3-4 online pinging services afterwards. Can a person be penalized for asking the same service to ping their blog too much?

I'd say no but to be careful I wouldn't use many more than you are now. I do know with technorati when I was OVERLOADING the tags eventually technorati started ignoring me lol. If you go with a handful like you are I wouldn't be worried. If you ever start to feel you are abusing / exploiting a system than you probably are and should stop. There are so many blogs, sites out there if any free services thinks you are abusing their will be consequences.

I hope that helps . Welcome to the forum you should post a keyword rich intro to your blog in the "Show off Your Blog" section.
