Default What sets your blog apart

This maybe have been answered, but I was wondering what techniques you use to set your blog apart. I have a tech blog and they are a dime a dozen. So whats your take on it?

What sets Diligent apart is that I run experiments and use a lot of personal philosophies to drive home my points. As well, I don't go for the "make money online" approach but rather the "create a great online business" approach.

And I have a cute monkey mascot.

What sets Blog by Design apart (product review blog) is that it does video reviews of blogs for free! That makes it a great service and opportunity for other bloggers. I don't have a cute mascot for it yet, but it's in the works.

Thanks. I really want to do product reviews, but don't have really much to review. As it is right now I am a starving college student (not really starving) and don't have a lot of money to buy products and review them. Do you have an advice on how to review things. I do a lot of Howtos because I maintain computer labs, and I come by the knowledge by having to learn it.

My blog "Kolakube"...I guess I'd say not much.

But at my other blog, UnWrules, I write really short posts and is probably one of the only kind of blog in it's niche.

You don't necessarily have to have products to review them. What about asking other students to review products for you? Interview people about things, then write about it. You can also ask people about products online. There are also some websites you can sign up for that will send you products for free to review. I'm not sure what they are off hand - just do a Google search.

BTW - I love your screen name. I'm a huge Bama fan myself. Roll Tide!

I consider my blog to be the writter-equivalent of te video-reviewing craze that's currently going on. I don't know how to write a five paragraph review. I have to go through a film practically scene-by-scene.

What sets my blog apart from the others in my niche (home renovation / energy conservation):
  • Lots of photos included with most articles
  • Frequest posting daily / almost daily
  • seasonally focused topics, e.g. solar lawn mower in spring while solar air heater in fall / winter
  • call them as I see them, i.e. if we write about a product we don't like, we will say so...reputation is everything
  • allowing comments, even those that are in disagreement with our articles
  • held contest for real prize (big box gift card)
  • contact every contestant personally, even if they didn't win

Most other blogs in our niche don't do all of the above consistently from what I can tell.

Just use your honest opinion, yeah? And try to give things a rating. People like numbers.

I have yet to see a blog that plays Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon...not that I'm really looking for them either.
