. I especially like the make sure you have alot of posts before promoting. Promoting is good but not until you have something worthy of promotion!

Start with settling down with a nice, clean theme, do whatever tweaking you want before announcing it in case you screw things up (like I did once, that was a nightmare!), write at least a month's worth of posts so that people who drop by for the first time have enough reasons to comb through your blog, otherwise they'd leave and forget about it, then slowly promote your blog (also according to THE plan) instead of just simply submitting it to directories without keeping track and actively leave enough smart comments on other blogs to entice other bloggers to drop by.
