It's summer now and lot's of people are away is what I"m guessing and I know I got kinda burnt out from the web for a while this summer.
This is the most active exclusively blog only forum on the web and it's considerably larger in posts and members then the others so I think as long as it picks up a bit it will regain its stride. (Hopefully!)
Thing is at least 40 registered members logged in today. I think there just needs to be more new discussions, topics, threads. I need to start more myself that's for sure.
I'd say posting in forums is better then commenting on blogs if traffic and rankings is what you're ultimate goal is.
