I think you are onto something with your blog. If you made a blog about the daily happenings in the trucking business you wouldn't get that many hits however the fact that it's something very unrelated and alot of different topics you should have good coverage with your technorati tags. I assume you should be getting some decent traffic and who knows how many of those visitors may transfer over into sales. At the very least it's giving your site more link popularity then before so that should help with the search engines.
