I've only dabbled in blogging in the past due to severe time constraints, but since I absolutely love blogging I decided to get into it again, this time in a serious way. I'll be writing about what I do for a living, which is also what I've been intensely passionate about for two decades now. I have set some good, juicy goals for my blogging, and I don't think I'd even have a chance of getting close to reaching them if I did it any other way - by, say, blogging about legal services because of high paying AdSense keywords etc. Let's face it by just looking at the statistics: There are millions of bloggers around the world, and the very best at it make only six figure incomes. That's it. It's good money for sure, but not considering that these people are practically world champions at what they do. They are very the top achievers in this field, they seem to work all day long, have been at it for years, and they make perhaps a thousand dollars a day - like John Chow, for example, I think he averages a grand daily. That tells us quite a bit. The people who are the very best at this stuff make what a pimply twenty two year old stock broker with less than a years experience can make. And there really aren't many John Chows or Darren Rowses. So I gather that to be successful at blogging, you probably have to do a thorougly outstanding job. And how often do you see people do an outstanding job at something they don't have an intense passion for? Like never?

So that's my take on it (and I realize my post here can perhaps sound a little gloomy, but that's not my intention at all - I just wanted to get my point across.). I think those who enjoy a high degree of blogging success do so because they love what they blog about - and they also love the blogging itself.

Obviously, not everyone is blogging for money, or measure their blogging success in monetary terms. While I have set clear money goals for my blogging now (partly as a fun experiment that I journal on my 'Corner blog' but also because I want to earn more ), I'd also blog even if I didn't make a dime out of it. Still, even if you have no monetary goals whatsoever I don't think you'll enjoy much success if you don't have a passion for what you're doing. People who read your blog will know - and they will go read someone else's blog instead.

Just my two cents, though. I'm a noob at this so I'm really not sure if you should listen to anything I say at all.
Blog about something you love, something that really interest you, something your passionate about..don't start a blog with the intention of making immediate money..blogging about things you love are way much easier than blogging just for the money.
